Step 1) The Admission Process

Thank you for your interest in the University of Colorado at Boulder. Students seeking admission to a CU-Boulder master’s or doctoral program apply directly to the appropriate department rather than the Graduate School or the Office of Admissions. The graduate department to which you apply will review your application and credentials for admission. The graduate department will also notify you with an offer of admission, if materials are missing, or if you are denied admission.

Review Requirements
Read the degree and department overviews regarding admission requirements, department standards, test scores, supplemental materials, and deadlines. Some departments have preapplication requirements or other important information for prospective students. Please check the department pages for additional information.

Application Process and Deadlines
Contact the department to which you are applying for your specific deadline date. While the deadline for submitting the application with complete credentials for equal consideration is usually six to 10 months prior to the beginning of the semester for which you are applying, each department determines its own deadline. CU-Boulder has limitations on enrollment, and applications are considered until enrollment levels are reached. Read all application instructions carefully before completing the application. If applying to more than one department you must submit a complete application package and separate fee to each department.

Financial Assistance
For information regarding financial assistance to graduate students, contact the department to which you are applying and review the finances section, as well as the Office of Financial Aid web site.

Confirmation
If you are offered admission, you will receive a confirmation package from the Office of Admissions. See step 5 for more information.
