Chancellor's Statement on the Loss of 1st Lt. Tom Claiborne
November 3, 2009
The University of Colorado at Boulder lost one of its own when 1st Lt. Tom Claiborne, of Parker, died in the tragic Oct. 29 mid-air collision near San Clemente, Calif. Tom was a CU Navy ROTC graduate in aerospace engineering in 2006. Our hearts and deepest sympathies go out to his family and all that knew him in our CU-Boulder family. Chancellor Philip DiStefano Tom was an exceptional student, both in terms of academic accomplishments and his love of "hands-on" engineering. Tom's senior project, the Short TakeOff Wing, is still considered one of the finest experimental senior projects produced in the aerospace engineering department. Senior Instructor Donna Gerren
