IN THE SPOTLIGHT ‘All Health Breaks Loose’ with Boulder Campus Staff Council by the BCSC Communications Committee
On October 6, Boulder Campus Staff Council (BCSC) hosted its annual fall staff appreciation breakfast for classified and professional exempt staff members. More than 500 employees attended the event, held in the Glenn Miller Ballroom. This year, in addition to the hot breakfast catered by the UMC and welcoming remarks from guest speakers Chancellor Phil DiStefano and Vice Chancellors Frank Bruno and Sallye McKee, Staff Council partnered with Café of Life and Total Health Fairs to provide an exciting event, ‘The Day All Health Breaks Loose!’ A variety of vendors attended to share information and provide giveaways and demonstrations of everything from acupuncture, dental hygiene, skin care and healthy footwear to nutrition. Free chair massages quickly became a favorite part of the event and great way to start the workday. Anita Oltman, a library technician in the music library said, “Thank you for organizing the staff appreciation breakfast. This year in particular, the event displays and demonstrations were wonderful.” Anita added that the ‘Day All Health Breaks Loose’ event was a unique draw for her, and an interesting and useful addition to the breakfast. The BCSC outreach committee hopes that the breakfast provided an opportunity for all attendees to relax with their coworkers and encouraged employees to take care of themselves and stay healthy this fall. In addition to appreciation and informational events such as the fall breakfast, spring luncheon and the summer ice cream social, BCSC works with Bonfils Blood Center to host four blood drives each year. The blood drives are a great way to give back to the community. Look for information around campus about the upcoming blood drive in early November for another chance to donate. BCSC looks forward to continuing to provide events that demonstrate appreciation for Boulder campus staff members who work so hard and contribute to making CU-Boulder a wonderful community. For more information about BCSC, please visit the website or call the BCSC Office at 303-492-5473. The website includes contact information for each area representative on campus, committee descriptions, ways that staff members can become involved, a schedule of meetings, and photos from past Spirit Friday* winners. *Do you know which campus group was first to claim the Spirit Friday trophy in February 2009? Visit the Staff Council website to find out and email your answer to Scouncil@colorado.edu. The first 50 classified and professional exempt staff members to submit correct answers will be entered in a drawing for a final fall breakfast giveaway. | Does diversity apply to you?
